Safety with Telegram bots: how to spot the real bot and protect your account and your money

The most common scams with bots

Knowing the trick is half the protection. These are the most widespread:

• A fake bot with a near-identical name: one letter changed, or an underscore or a digit added to a well-known bot's username.
• Fake «support» that messages you first and asks for your login code or password, claiming to verify your account.
• Offers too good to be true, such as «deposit 10, get 100», from an unofficial account or channel.
• Links asking you to sign in to Telegram on an outside website.

How do you make sure you are using the official bot?

What you must never share with anyone

Neither a real bot nor the accountant needs this information to serve you, and whoever asks for it wants your account or your money:

• The Telegram login code you receive by message, and your two-step verification password.

• Screenshots that reveal codes or passwords.

Protect your Telegram account with two-step verification

Even if someone gets your SMS code, two-step verification keeps them out of your account because they do not know the extra password. Turn it on now:

1. Open Settings → Privacy and Security → Two-Step Verification.

3. Add a recovery email address and confirm it.
